R&D Data Architect (Life Sciences)

We are looking for a Data Architect with a strong dual competency in data and science to help shape and scale the R&D Data & AI ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of scientific domains, data engineering, and advanced analytics/AI, and is critical to ensuring that R&D data is usable, trustworthy, and decision-ready.
As a Data Architect in R&D Data & AI, you will design data architectures that support the full scientific data lifecycle—from early discovery through clinical development. You will work closely with data engineers, data scientists, and product teams to develop robust, scalable, and sustainable data solutions.
Availability between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM EST is required.
Initial 4-month contract with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve end-to-end data architectures for R&D data, covering ingestion, storage, modeling, and consumption layers.
- Define architectural patterns and standards for data exploration, analytics, and AI/ML workflows, leveraging platforms like Databricks.
- Develop comprehensive architecture documentation, decision records, and operational excellence frameworks.
- Ensure architectures support scientific traceability, reproducibility, and FAIR principles across key R&D domains (Discovery, Clinical, RWE).
- Define semantic, logical, and physical data models, ensuring they reflect both scientific meaning and analytical needs.
- Embed data quality, metadata, and governance requirements into designs to ensure regulatory and privacy compliance.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data architecture or engineering, with a strong scientific background.
- Demonstrated expertise in scientific or R&D data (Pharma, Biotech, or Healthcare).
- Proven ability to translate complex scientific workflows into scalable data and analytics architectures.
- Expertise in data modeling, FAIR principles, and metadata-driven architectures.
- Solid understanding of data products and how to segment data solutions for global assets.
- English level: B2 (Upper-Intermediate) or higher.
Nice to have
- Experience with semantic data, ontologies, or knowledge graphs.
- Experience in regulated environments (GxP) and managing Data Lakes.
